Solid color stain wont dry hard

I have a can of solid color oil base base deck stain that I bought 5 yrs ago and its never been opened and has been stored indoors. When I opened the can all the oil was on top so I mixed thouroghly for about 10 min. I applied it to a test board and It looks good but doesnt dry hard, I can peel it off with my fingernail after 2 days of drying. Is there anything I can add to the can to make the stain dry harder or should I just throw it away and get some new. Does paint and stain have a shelf life?

You can add some japan drier to the stain and that should cure the drying issues...... but you might be better off buying a new can of stain - or mixing the old in with some new if you need more than 1 gallon.
