I have a small 4'x5' concrete stoop outside my patio door. I will be building a deck and I don't know how to get around the stoop. I thought about notching the joists and have them sitting on the stoop and just using it as support for the deck. Is this a practical solution? I have heard of people doing this. Thanks in advance.

Not recomended unless steps are taken to keep it dry and clean between the deck boards and concrete.....But......
This can work Ok if you leave a space over the concrete for the water and dirt to get out, if you do not it will damage the deck boards (dryrot).
