Composoite decking border broke!!

So I had installed some 16" composite skirting around the edge of the deck last year. As I have inspected it this year, I noticed that of the 6 deck screws that I used to fasten the skirt to the rim edge PT wood, 4 had broken. I believe the wood had expanded and the composite had not and thus broke the fasteners. So I need to know how can I fasten the skirting to the wood so that it does not destroy either the PT or the composite next year.

SS Carraige bolts?

Overdrill your screw holes in the composite , then reinstall your screws. It will give wiggle room for expansion and contraction. Stainless won't necessarily help, it is the size of the hole that matters. You may want to post a couple of pix of the skirting so we can see what you see. http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...your-post.html

I think you have it backwards... the composite expands and contracts immensely while the wood remains basically stable. If you put 6 screws in a long piece, I'd say you need more screws.

Can't think of anything new to say. More screws.
