I think that is aging more then the type of stain.
The folks that owned my home prior to me (been here just over a year now) painted the decking instead of staining it. Mine looks worse then yours now.

My previous house had solid stain from day 1 and it looked slightly aged when we sold it ~12yrs later.

Deck has cracks in wood surface

The deck was installed 23 years ago and it looked real good when I was using a clear finish and then as it started to age I went with a semi transparent stain and now to soild. The wood is some form of Phillipine Mahogany and over the years more and more boards have what I call cracks on the surface. Is there anything I can do to fill the cracks and then use a solid stain again.

There are fillers you can use but they really aren't worth the effort. Often the filler will pop up as the deck weathers

Think I got it all figured out. Thank you to everyone who gave advice so far. I've shrunk the deck down to 12x18 and will build a walkway up to it. It is still at ground level, or rather just a few inches above. I have plans to expand the deck later on, but that will be the easy part. Here is an illustration. The red are the footers, they will be wider at the bases and tapered up to a 8" form. The footers will be spaced about 5.5' apart. The green are the beams, they are doubled 2x6's The yellow are the joists, they are 2x6's that are 16"oc and over a foot under the max span according to my chart. I was originally going to tapcon some brackets into the tops, but you guys said that's not the best and I should just sink the brackets into the wet crete. I'm not super comfortable with that cause I like the idea of adjustment. So I decided to compromise the 2 ideas. I'll sink a 1/2" bolt a foot into the wet concrete and then attach this bracket to the top. This will be very strong, yet give me a little adjustability. It also raises the deck another inch off the ground for better ventilation. Sound good? Help! Deck roof design dilemma

Hello all; New to the forum, appreciate any help you can give. We have a large back deck that we need to re-roof. The former home owners attached a wood & clear corregated PVC roof to the house, but never attached it to the ledger/header board as the ledger board is too low. The roof was attached to cedar siding of the house, and poorly. The design held up, but was not safe, and only extended 2/3 the way of the deck. We would like to reconstruct the roof single pitch, extending over entire upper deck, adding support posts where needed so we can run exterior curtains to close off deck. We would like to use existing ledger board, existing support posts and beams where possible, and of course add supports. Can we somehow use the existing ledger board (above door in pictures) to somehow support a roof that starts higher on the house? Without tearing off siding and putting in a new ledger board that would not actually be fixed to a floor joist of the house) We have not chosen specific roofing material yet, but are thinking another lightweight material like the corregated PVC as before (not shingles or shakes). We prefer not to go a gabled roof as windows and house roof design do not lend to it.
