Substituting sand with screening for paver patio?

I'm building a paver patio and a few landscaping places around here (Ohio) have suggested that I use screening instead of sand. Anyone see a problem with this substitute?

Well that just makes no since.
How would screen fill the gaps between the pavers?

Normally, it's a gravel base with a sand layer that the pavers sit on. However, people around here have suggested a gravel base with a screening layer that the pavers sit on instead of sand. Polymeric sand is still used to fill in the gaps.

Sure they did not say screed, instead of screen?
Screeded would mean leveled off.

Yes. You would screed the "gravel screening" still, BUT is gravel screening a substitute for sand?????

Still trying to figure out exactly what product your talking about.
I've used silt screen under driveways and walks in areas where it's subject to sinking.
All the top soiled gets removed for at least 8", compact it then lay the silt screen down, then the crushed stone, stone dust or crush and run for 5". Compact it in layers as you spread it. The last layer is sand so you can set the all the pavers level. Once set it gets compacted again.
Then the poly sand is used between the pavers.
