Deck Steps

I recently poured a patio on one side of my deck. I now need to make a step off of the deck onto the patio. THe step will be on the side so it will be entering at the end of the deck boards. THis is the opposite of how it should be. My other steps are the correct way. The rise between the patio surface and the deck is 15 to 15 1/4" (deck slopes from house- not perfectly level) where the step or steps will be. I think this is probably to short for 2 steps so I thought about just making one step at around 7 1/2" with an 11" tread. Does this sound ok? If so what lumber sizes should I use to complete this? Thanks.

Question What lumber?

What dimensions of lumber should I buy then? I guess I am basically going to be building a 7" box with 2x4 decking on it then? What do I make the box out of? (What width?)

Make the box out of 2x6's and 36" wide. A 2x6 is 5 1/2", add a 2 x 4 top and you have a 7" step. Perfectly acceptable.
