How to fix support beam in back porch?

The board that the support beam is on, is rotten and is slowly going down. I'm thinking I should fix this before it gets worse. How do I go about fixing this? I've never fixed anything like this but I'm willing to give it a shot. Any help on how I should do this?

I use a post and go from the roof to a good area of the porch or the ground and jack up slightly with either a hydraulic jack or wedges to take the weight off the column. Then saw under the column flush with the deck to cut any nails. Then slide the bottom of the column out of the way and replace the rotten board. If the bottom of the column is also rotten it's a good time to replace it as well.

Thank you. That's really helpful. I'm going to make myself useful now and go get a hydraulic jack.
