Using stain over existing green stain

I have a deck that is currently stained with a green stain and would like to stain it with a different colour. Is this possible or will the green stain show through any stain that I use?

Welcome to the forums!

A lot depends on the type of stain that is currently on the deck [some stains must be removed or well weathered before they will accept another coat] and what type of stain you are going to use.

Generally, semi-transparent stains will allow for a little color change [darker works better than going lighter] Solid body stains can be changed to any color. Translucent or toner stains must have the existing stain removed before altering the color more than a half a shade or so.

A pic or two of your existing deck color along with a link to the stain color/type you want to use would be helpful - http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...-pictures.html
