Ledger board issue

I have attached two pics of a 6ft Ledger that remains from a 6 X 8 deck I torn down from the back of my house. The new ledger will be 24'. Between the old ledger board and the house frame/rim, is a 6' "white" board (cement board that is also 6' in lenght. Can I just remove the "white board" so that new ledger board would be flush with house frame (the stairs to the right are something I put up temporarily). Otherwise, do I need to also install a similar "spacer" board to match the depth?

There is another option. You can make the new deck free standing & not use a ledger board at all. Just patch the exterior wall & you'll be on your way.
