Stamped/Colored Concrete Patio Advice Needed
I am looking in doing a 300sqft stamped patio my self DIY. That is my idea anyways.
Wondering if anyone has done a similar DIY job that can share advice on the following:
1. Type of concrete mix to order from supplier
Also - for 300 sqft do I need any reinforcements,I.e. wire mesh or rebars, etc
2. How much time do you wait before you can stamp
3. Where do you buy the coloring that is sprayed or thrown down on top of the patio
4 What do you do to seal or protect the surface after all work is done

1. Type of concrete mix to order from supplier
Also - for 300 sqft do I need any reinforcements,I.e. wire mesh or rebars, etc
-Just call your local concrete supplier and tell them what you are doing and the dimensions. Google/search for local supplier of stamped concrete and color products
-You dont have to have reinforcement for your patio. But, it does not hurt to put it in. Make sure you have a good gravel base and have 4" of concrete. You can also have the concrete company add fiberglass to your order of cement (adds strength) and cost very little to add.
2. How much time do you wait before you can stamp
-It depends on how the concrete is setting up. You will also want a team of people to help. You have small windows of time to get the concrete in, float it, work the "cream" etc....
3. Where do you buy the coloring that is sprayed or thrown down on top of the patio..
-You need to research a local supplier.
4 What do you do to seal or protect the surface after all work is done
-Whatever the color supplier recommends.
-Don't forget to cut contol joints in after this sets up some
-Place expansion joint material between the pad and the house (if they butt to one another)
-I had a contractor do my work. It did not seem to be a project I wanted to do myself... If I had the knowledge and could get enough help, I wish I had done it myself. The conctractor was horrible! Check my blog for more info on stamped concrete.. and the fun we have had with our contractor:

that's the trouble watching youtube stuff,,, a good pro makes everything look too easy not only the expertise doesn't exhibit itself but locating/renting stamps can be difficult,,, we NEVER rent ours imo, if you're asking such basic questions, its fairly easy to predict the final look - YIKES !
