Re-staining deck (oil based)

I have a question when staining my new deck with Wolman f/p natural I LOVED the color. When Re-staining a few yrs later I was not so happy with how dark it came. This has happened to me on some other projects also when restaining w oil based stain. Any solutions?

Oil based products do darken the surface a bit so stripping the old stain off might be in order before applying new coats.

The wood also darkens some as it ages. It might also be the difference between 1 coat and 2.
