saltillo tile outdoor patio

I would like to create a saltillo patio outdoors, 9 x 12. I cannot find out what kind of base it needs. Can it go directly over paver base or is it only to cover a pre existing concrete patio?? I live in Florida and I do not think the weather would prevent an outdoor saltillo patio

What is "saltillo"? Is that a concrete paver block or is it a porcelain tile?

I personally like it. Are you going to lay it yourself? I did a whole lower floor in AZ with it. remember tile does not have a flat surface. Any furniture will tend to wobble.

I would think it's porous nation would eventually allow mold, mildew and algae to discolor it. Maybe you could find a porcelain tile that has a similar look.

Are you considering tile over a compacted paver base? How thick are the tiles? I would assume that unless the Saltillo is an inch thick minimum that a loose lay over base with broom sand fill would not hold up very well.

tile needs grout in order to be placed/secured,,, even outside, you need conc 1st,,, IF they're pavers, you can place over well compacted & drain'd gravel base

Saltillo Is a soft clay tile. Kiln hardened, When I installed in AZ inside I used a radial arm saw with a masonry blade. Used in AZ inside and outside but climate very different in Fl. Not perfect squares and 1/2 grout lines.
