8x8 posts how far apart
Hello all. I am planning to build a pavilion on top of 4 inch concrete patio. How far apart can I put the 8x8 posts? I will have a swing attached on the side.
thanks

Pavilion
4x4s to the concrete?
Spacing will be determined by the size of the beams supporting the roof.

The pad will not support the weight of a large pavilion without cracking or sinking, so take that into consideration. Each support post should be sitting on a properly dug footing with metal standoff bases. 8x8 is surely overkill, but if you have a source, then it will handle the weight, I am sure. 6x6's would be closer to the norm for such a structure.

I wanted the posts to be about 12 feet apart if possible. So I should dig and put concrete tubes then run the concrete patio on top? I wanted about a 16 x 18 pavilion with shingles.

Your spacing should be equally divisible by the length of the deck. 8' spacing would be optimal. You did say "pavillion", so it may help to know the design, whether 6 sided, etc. I still question 8x8 posts and why you are using such large posts. It is best to have the sonotubes segregated from the pad, even if by 1/4" foam insulation strips. The pad will expand and contract at a different rate than the sonotube concrete will.
