Load strength 4x6 posts

My dad called and asked me what the load strength of 4- 20" 4x6 posts would be, since I do not know, I figured I would ask here

Its a 8x8 deck andthere would be one in every corner

Load in which direction? 4"? 6"? or vertical compression? What is he doing with them?

Edit: your answer came across as I was typing. He would be better off using 6x6 posts for corners of the deck, especially if it is any height off the ground. You are in my old stomping grounds (Forest Park), so it could be low to the ground. We'll need to know that.

vertical.. into 2x12s doubled.. held by strong ties post caps

Here's a PDF file that I will think your dad should read first. It gives much of the code compliance that he will need, including how to attach his beams to the posts, and how NOT to do certain things.
