Polycarbonate multiwall panels as pergola cover

Hi all,

We are about to start a backyard project which includes a pergola near the house. One of the contractors suggested using polycarbonate multiwall panels as pergola cover since we were concerned about pergola making the interiors of the house darker. I was wondering what you guys think about that.

About the color of the panels also, would you go with translucent or opaque?

Welcome to the forums.

Polycarbonate can get spendy when you start looking at thick pieces. Any idea what size and thickness you would need for this?

Not that I know about the material properties but with a quick search I found these 1/4 in. thick sheets in home depot (LEXAN Thermoclear 48 in. x 96 in. x 1/4 in. Opal Multiwall Polycarbonate Sheet-PCTW4896-6MMOPL - The Home Depot). My pergola will be 10x14 and since I live in San Francisco bay area there won't be any snow accumulation on top of it.
