Question How much gravel do I need for patio (2 or 4 inches)?

Hi,

I'm in the process of gathering all the materials I need to do a 15x22 paver stone patio in my yard.

From what I've researched online, it says that I need to dig 7 inches into the ground for the following:

4 inches gravel
1 inch sand
2 inch paver stones

However, would I be able to get away with just 2 inches of gravel?

I don't know why I need 4 inches of gravel for a simple patio that will will just hold my patio furniture.

Thank you!

Don't skimp on the base. If anything I go thicker. It's not only about the patios ability to support weight. The stone base provides good drainage so there is not water under there that can freeze and heave during winter.
