How do I fit a storm door that is too narrow?

There's about an inch and a half gap left in the doorway when I tried to put in a storm door. Storm door was supposed to be 36 inches wide when in actuality it turned out to be 35 1/8" . How do I make it fit?

That's hard to believe. What does the storm door box/instructions say? The box should specify the size of the rough opening.

Attach a picture and some measurement so that we can see what you are seeing.

Is this a typical aluminum door with a frame that attaches to the door frame or trim? What is the measurement between the wood of the door frame? The door itself has to be narrower since the aluminum frame takes up some space and allows for adjustment.

Normally you only have about 1/2" of play to use a stock storm door.

You can add a strip of wood the correct thickness to the inside of the jamb to narrow the opening.
