Flashing ledger

Deck was covered with 3/4 inch plywood and dura deck (vinyl) over 12 years ago. Am switching to composite. Removed all plywood and discovered the flashing or lack of at ledger. Joists are perfect as dura deck was nailed to wall one inch above ledger. Can I just run done butyl flashing tape on walk plywood under house wrap and over ledger. I am installing "rain escape" after and will run that up over ledger as well.

How does "run done" butyl flashing tape work? I've never heard of the term.

Whatever you do, don't build a flashing dam that will pond water between the house and the first deck board. Instant recipe for failure.

Flashing tape is not meant to be used in place of metal flashing. You should use a metal flashing over the ledger and tuck it under the housewrap. Make sure you aren't using aluminum flashing over treated wood.
