Should I seal my Deck? How do I give it gloss?

Hi All,

So I just had my deck stained with Sikkens SRD. The finish is matte and I have two questions
1) should I put a sealer over the top of it?
2) Is there anything I can do to make it shiny without compromising the product?

1. You already sealed the deck - deck stain is sealer as well.
2. Not of which I am aware, sorry.

I've never used any Sikkens coatings but they do have a great reputation. If it was a waterborne formula it would need to be removed or well weathered before anything can be applied. Oil base formulas aren't as problematic with recoating BUT adding a coat of anything to give it sheen will likely hasten the end of the deck's coating.

As mentioned above, the stain has sealed your deck and needs no top coat, also a shinier deck would likely be slipperier when wet along with showing wear quicker.
