Pests under deck

I am nearly finished building a deck that stands less than a foot off the ground. As I look at it I see that it could be a very nice place for groundhogs or skunks or other small animals to set up their home. I am thinking about putting 1/2" x 1/2" wire mesh around the perimeter to keep them out. I know they can burrow so can someone suggest how deep I go with the mesh? Thank you.

Rich

I go down about a foot. You'll still have to keep an eye on it to make sure nothing starts a burro in the area.

Thank you, Pilot Dane. That gives me a good place to begin.

How would a skunk, groundhog or other such animal begat a donkey?

Vinyl Lattis would look a whole lot better and not rust out.

What the heck is Lattis? Do you mean lattice? You would have to use the "privacy" lattice and even the spaces on that variety would allow a lot of animals to crawl through.

Maybe his lattis is the Biblical variety--you know, the kind that begats donkeys.
