Protect and Preserve

I have 4 questions regarding a new cedar deck:

1. To keep the natural look of cedar is there a clear protectant/sealer that provides UV protection?

2. If I apply a "cedar tone" semi-transparent stain I get UV protection, but will it look yellow?

3. Can I apply a sealer or stain immediately to new cedar or do I have to wait a year like treated pine?

4. Is timber oil a good choice for preservation/sealer/UV protection?

#1 - not really, without any pigments a clear sealer doesn't hold up well. I'd suggest using a cedar toner or translucent stain.

#2 - a semi-transparent stain has more color than a toner so it depends a lot on the colorant used in the stain.

#3 - it depends, if the cedar is already dry you can apply the stain now. Do you know if the wood was kiln dried or air dried?

#4 - I don't recall having used timber oil. A lot depends on the environment, what works or doesn't work in one climate may have the opposite effect in a different climate. It would be best to get some local imput.
