sand gravel mix
sand red rock/river rock mix

What is there at the moment? What's wrong with compacting the soil & pouring the concrete?

Its clay dirt right now. Everything I read and everyone I talked to said I need a base for drainage

Some clay may be OK, but there are some clays that do not behave well where there is constant water present.

Just look at the MNDOT specification, which is commonly referred to as "class 5" base and is commonly used state-wide despite the different local aggregates.
