adding to existing deck

guys,

I want to add to an existing deck so I can build an outdoor kitchen. The plan is to add another 28inx100in to the existing deck. It will be an extension to the existing deck..and it will attach to the existing deck but it will have 4 or 5 decking posts.

The posts on the existing deck just sit on concrete blocks, so for the new addition I will definitely do cement footings below frost line. Is 4 enough or should I add a fifth support post right in the middle?

and it will attach to the existing deck
Don't attach it. Make it free standing, no ledger board. Use 6 concrete posts & footings.

In which direction do you plan on expanding? I agree with Pulpo in making it free standing. At present, your current deck is built less than perfect. The deck pads are number one, as they should be poured footings. The ledger appears to be attached over the siding, which causes its own problems. Free standing that low to the ground and properly braced would make a much better deck.

Chandler, i'm expanding that side of the deck on the right towards that siding corner piece. I wasn't planning on doing a ledger board but just attach it to the existing deck, but sounds like I shouldn't do that at all.

Pulpo, sounds good will do 6 poured footings.
