Wood ledge outside kitchen window

I have a kitchen window that is 96" wide and 39" tall looking into the swimming pool and courtyard.

I would like to mount a ledge on the outside of the kitchen window say 6-8" wide so that when the kitchen window slides open I can pass drinks and snacks out and there is a place to sit them down.

There is a roof overhang that protrudes 4' so the ledge would not get wet most of the time...but it is Miami and occasionally we have driving rain and hurricanes.

My plan is to just get a few metal brackets and mount them onto the concrete wall, and cut a piece of lumber to fasten onto the brackets.

What type of lumber is best for this type of situation? Standard pressure treated lumber like 2X8 and stain it? Or rough cedar? Or hard wood?

Is there a patio roof over that area? I generally see some type of countertop material used. IMO wood isn't a great choice.

I'd be using 5/4 vinyl lumber.
