Built Beam Questions
When building a deck beam from 2x lumber, you need ½” plywood spacers between the boards so it will line up with the 6x6 post, yes?
Should the beam be screwed together with screws or does it need to be lag bolts?

When building headers that are protected from the weather you insert plywood to make it all uniform but when it's exposed to the weather you don't want the plywood as it will swell or delaminate over time.

Hmm OK, but the BC6 post cap is 5.5" inches, making it seem like 3 2x boards spaced with 1/2". I havent found any post caps that allow for 4.5" (3 2x boards).

I have ripped down a PT 2x to make up the difference on one side or the other in the bracket but while I've built a few decks - I mostly stain them. One of the carpenters should be along later with more/better info.

I saw that one too... except I can't find it anywhere! Online only it seems... was hoping to bang a lot of the work out this weekend.
What if I just notch out the 6x6 the full 11.25" (or does it have to be the full height??) for the 3-2x12 beam... something like this:
