lanai ceiling

I had a contractor that wanted to use soffit vinyl for a ceiling on the truss lanai roof he was building for me. Is that better than drywall or not? What would be most cost effective, the soffit vinyl or drywall? I live in Florida. Thank you.

Need a picture so we so what we can see what your seeing.
No one here knows if this is even an enclosed porch.
There's dozens of different types of vinyl soffit.
None are going to rot, all can be pressure washed.
None will ever need to be painted.

Welcome to the forums! For a lanai, I would suggest going with the soffit material as sheetrock can absorb moisture and since the lanai is not weatherproof, it could be problematic

I used to live in fla and saw a lot of porch ceilings covered in drywall. IF they are well painted they will hold up ok but drywall wouldn't be my first choice. The drywall absorbing moisture from the humidity is the biggest concern!

30 yrs ago vinyl was problematic in central fla with the heat warping it. Assuming that issue has been resolved - vinyl is the way to go.
