Exterior knee wall on screened porch

I have a dream porch on paper and I'm trying to decide what to put on the outside of the knee walls. They will be standard 2x4's.
If I sheath the outside and put up vinyl siding, what would I use to cover the top edge and keep the water from getting between the knee wall and sheathing?

As long as this isn't built yet, I would recommend windows instead of just screens - everyone around here who built one with screens has retrofitted with windows to avoid the hassle of putting up plastic every winter to keep the furniture out of the winter weather.

Normally a 'ledge' is installed, basically just a cap that can aluminum covered or even PT wood left exposed. I agree windows are better .... if the budget allows.

As stated earlier, a cap is most commonly used. Regardless of what it is or what it's covered with, be sure to tip it slightly so water runs off. I also agree with windows if the budget can handle it. I used a decent quality storm window on my porch and they work fine for a reasonable (to me) price. At the very least, design your openings so that you can easily add standard size windows in the future without major surgery.

I wish windows were in the budget. something to think about.
I'll go in search of the caps you're talking about. Thanks!

I like to use a 2x6 for the cap and cut a slight bevel on the exterior portion so the rain can run off.

If I'm not mistaken they normally custom bend aluminum to cover whatever was used for the cap .... but I'm a painter not a siding guy. Maybe one of the others will have a better answer for you.

I considered using 2x6 instead of 2x4. More work but may be my answer in the long run.
