What size lags/Ledger Lok ? Length

I'm imstalling ledger board and noticed the LedgerLoks come in 3 5/8" and 5"

What size or how do I know what length to get?

The ledger is 2x12 and it's installing into the side of the house.....

Normally ledgers are connected to the band of the house using 1/2" carriage bolts with 3/4" washers on the outside, 1/2" washers inside and bolted from within the structure. You would really need to check with your AHJ to see if they will allow their use, and determine the size they will accept. They may require more LedgerLoks to be installed as compared to carriage bolts.

See page 13 http://www.awc.org/pdf/codes-standar...Guide-1405.pdf

Last time I spoke with them they sent me this...
It says ledgerLok and lags are approved but didn't say which kind

I don't want to use something to short and have issues later or something to long and have the bolts protruding into the house (or does that not matter?)

That's good. I would use the top line with the closer spacing. Make sure your spacing is not lateral, but offset slightly. 5" Ledger Locks should be sufficient, as you will have 1 1/2" ledger + possibly 1/2" sheathing + the remainder into the double band of the house for a total of 5" exactly.

You will really want an electric impact driver to drive these puppies in.

Do most houses have a double band?
I called the fasten master tech hotline and they said the 5" lags are pretty rare unless I want to put a double ledger on.

Is there anyway to check to see if I have a double band board or not?

I did mention double band, and it may not be the norm in all areas. The band will be sitting on the outside of your block wall, so if you have access to that area in the crawl or basement, you could just look up and measure from the interior edge of the block to the edge of the band. Blocks are 8" wide and bands are 1 1/2" wide.
