Riser Material?

Hi, my stringer height is 6-7/8 so I was thinking (hoping) to use 1x8 PT... but nowhere around has any. Regular pine board seems like a bad option for water issues. What is common to use? 5/4 decking?

Thanks.

A real lumberyard should have it. if you cant find it, you can use 5/4 decking, ripped on a table saw to half your rise... (3 3/8" or so, maintain a gap between the boards just like you would on your deck or treads).

Do most people put the riser on the tread or behind it? I prefer the look of the riser behind the tread.

Behind is best. Generally fastening the back side of the riser to the back edge of the tread (from behind) will result in a stronger stair. Dont know how thick your treads are but the risers could be 2 3/4" and 5 1/2" if you go behind a 1 1/2" thick tread.

Treads will just be 5/4 decking. Found the 1x8 PT after all. Didn't think about screwing the riser to the tread but it sounds like a good idea.
