Wrap-around deck question
I'm going to be building a deck like the one shown below. How do I handle the red shaded part? Does there need to be a beam that continues on the line of the ledger? I want the decking to all be the same direction on both sides of the house. I understand the far beam can just extend all the way, but I'm not sure what to do about that middle part.

If you want all your decking to run in the same direction, it is a personal choice. I would space double joists every 8' down the front of the red area. Possibly what you thought by calling them beams. Then connect joists with hangers to the doubles all the way down. 5' ain't much of a deck. Have you considered a wider one?

I just like the look of it like that. That red part isnt there, but there is a door near the front so I just figured I'd connect it to the main deck when I rebuild it.

Yes, it matters. Attach your double joist/beams using double shear joist hangers on both the band and the ledger, then use joist hangers to attach the joists to the beams/joists.

It has to be attached to the ledger board, which is attached via bolts to the house. Joist hangers will hold the beams and joist hangers will hold the joists.
