Can I leave one of the pergola legs unattached to the ground ?

Hi all

I am planning to install a pergola over the table and 6 chairs that sit at the corner of my concrete bricks patio (rectangular). I am going to dig to install post supports for the three legs that will sit close to the edge of patio, on my lawn but for the forth I would just like to leave it on the patio (it will bear weight but it will not be screwed to a post support)

thanks
PF

Technically you are not supposed to have a post bearing on a slab, it needs a footer.

If this post is in the middle you might slide by. For example if a large beam is carrying most of the weight and you have more posts than needed.

At the very least I would try to form up some type of pier block and use a drift pin to keep the post from kicking out.

Yes lateral movement must be prevented
This will be a very light pergola
I intend to use shades that slide on a cable for roof so this pergola will be a light rectangular frame sitting on four posts
