15x15 deck to addition

Going to build a 15x15 deck about 7ft tall and my question is can I attache the deck to the addition that has no foundation? Or can I build the deck next to the house and make it freestanding deck?? Deck will be in Massachusetts.... thanks

I vote freestanding as well, regardless of the foundation or lack thereof on the building.

Footings near the house should be at the same depth as the house footings. This is because most soil near the house is backfilled and not considered "undistrurbed" or solid ground. Other footings need to be below the frost line for your area.

Here is some code guidelines for your to consider when designing your deck. Always default to local codes and the recommendations of your local permit office.
