Roof on existing deck structure...
We are rebuilding our deck and planned it accordingly so we could eventually put a roof on top. Now, we decided that we might as well do it right away. It's currently sitting at about 5' above the ground and my question is: how do I sit my 6x6 for the roof over the existing 6x6? Should I replace them for extra long ones (like 16')? Any piece of hardware I can use to avoid this?

It would be best to have full length 6x6s from the footer to the roof. What are the posts currently sitting on? If you have a roof you must have a sufficient footer to support the structure.

I have the engineer report that confirms it can support it.
Say full length 6x6 is not an option (because I doubt they sell them here), what could work?

I've seen many porch pictures where 6x6 holding the roof are not even aligned to the footer beams... So I'm thinking there must be another valid way to do this?

I found this and they seem pretty decent. They just added proper hardware over the existing post underneath the deck, so the weight is transferred properly:
