I need to shorten sliding screen door
What I need is 48x79. I already bought 51x93 used, assuming I could just miter cut to length and reuse corner inserts. I am finding it's not that simple. The long vertical piece is no problem. But the horizontal pieces have a cutout for roller and another for a plastic piece for screw. One option is to save the rollers and the plastic piece for joining. I will have to cut in the middle (ends are not touched) and join them with a sheet metal and rivets. The other option is to cut 1.5" from each end and make new cutouts. I definitely need some new tool for the cutouts. Advice please.

Sounds like a bad idea. You would need to insert something long and solid that fits tightly inside the frame at the splice or it will be very wonky.

Well I'm not saying this idea is a cure all. But I have mended screens and doors using a piece of wood slid into the cavity. It stiffens the cross arm. It doesn't have to be a perfect fit, but at the point of the two pieces joined I want a very tight fit.
