Replacing Patio Posts
#1

Hi. I'm looking to replace my rotting patio posts with 6x6 PT lumber. After watching several youtube videos I figured it seems easy enough, but not so. While measuring I noticed that the brick that the posts are resting on is not level on the post to the right. It dips by about half an inch in the front. I am not sure how I should combat this. The 6x6's will be resting on 1/2" aluminum rests to prevent direct ground contact just like the old posts. My first thought would be to use composite shims, but where would I insert them? I am a bit of a novice in the world of carpentry, but I would really like to get this done before the cold sets in. Please help!!!!

You would cut the bottom of the post with a skilsaw to closely match the existing slope.
And when you say brick, I hope the brick is a solidly motared foundation and not a paver patio or something. And your standoff are galvanized z-max steel I hope.

A skilsaw has a 7 1/4" round blade. I doubt you would get an exact cut as a newbie with a sawzall.
