Deck added, need to replace single outdoor light

We recently added a deck which replaced some decending stairs to a small crappy patio.

we have a single outside light next to our sliding door. I was planning on replacing it with a floodlight, but as a result of the deck being level with the sliding door, the floodlights would be eye level.

Eventually Ill get a pro to install lights higher up, but until then, I was curious about options for a new fixture. We may just get a brighter bulb and a new glass. (Style suggestions?) we may get solar caps for the deck, but those are always on and I like to be able to control the lights.

I've got something similar, except I go down a couple stairs to reach the patio. The light fix is i the proper position.

Suggestion as a temporary fix, install a flood light fixture there and get LED bulbs and just aim them on the high side to avoid direct eye contact. Using a blue filter bulb will allow enough light to see but will reduce glare and irritation.

I will give that a try. I’m worried about blinding the houses behind us. I hate when my neighbor had a light shining into our house. I don’t want to do the same.

Again the blue floods will dampen the effect and it's actually kind of pleasant.

If you are just trying to light the deck you could use a wall mounted downlight like this https://www.lightingdirect.com/kichl...er~kichler9234.
