Sun Shade Sail Install

Hello All,

I just purchased a sun shade sail and am now trying to figure out how to install it. It's a 12X16.

I don't have any tall attachment points so I am under the assumption I will need to anchor something to the side of my deck to achieve a desired height to install the sail. I have three points that border the deck that I will need to rig something up for the sail to anchor to.

I think I will be able to anchor the 4th attachment to the fascia.

Summary of attachment points:

• Post 1 is a deck post that will require an extension. This post does not extend into the ground.
• Post s is a deck post that will require a height extension. This post is buried into the ground.
• No Post is the 16' mark where the sail needs to attach to. I don't have a post here or a tree on the other side of the deck. I will definitely need to rig something up here. I've attched two pictures. One of which shows the beam.
• Fasica 1 is a possible attachment point. I hope it's an attachment point.

I think you are coming at this from the wrong direction. You bought a generic shade sail and are trying to fit it to a deck that doesn't really match. How about getting a shade sail that will fit your deck/site?

You don't have good structural mounting locations for the sail you bought. I would suggest coming up with a mounting that's light weight and easy for you to construct. Surf fishing rods make interesting poles and they flex to help spare your mountings from the shock of the sail getting hit by the wind. You can also use things like pieces of pipe or electrical (EMT) tubing.

 

 

Look at EMT fittings. There are several mounting/attachment brackets commonly available.

That looks great! I think the two triangular sails looks much better than the rectangular one you linked initially.
