Floating footings for landing/stairs?

I plan on building a small landing (4' x 4') with a set of stairs leading down to the yard so I can access the backyard via the rear slider. The landing will be about 4' high. Am I able to use floating concrete blocks/footings for this? It will only be temporary until I get my deck built. Is it okay to attach one end to the band board of the house, or does the entire thing need to be free standing if I'm using this type of block footing?
