I recently bought an apartment on the top (5th) floor of a building that was renovated in 1988. The roof is flat, and covered with a silver surfacing (flashing, I guess?). There is a small wooden deck on the roof, that was built in 1988. I need to replace/rebuild the deck badly. Two friends (both weekend handymen, not professional contractors) who have built decks at their own houses have generously offered to help. Their decks are beautiful, but they are in yards, and have cement foundations, etc. Can anyone tell me what what special considerations I should take into account, since my deck will be on a flat roof (that gets hot and soft in the summer sun!!) Thanks.

i THINK but am not sure that they use concrete pads to help distribute the load over a larger area and allow for drainage

Hope this helps---josh
