Reuse gas fireplace box outdoors

We have recently removed the gas fireplace from
our house. Wed like to reuse it outside on the patio as a wood fireplace. It is possible to brick around it and use it as a wood burning fireplace outside? Any concerns or pitfalls we should be aware of?

Welcome to the forums.

What kind of fireplace..... insert..... just logs ??
Typically equipment designed for indoor use is not used outside as it's not weather proofed.

For an outside wood type fireplace usually just a burner is needed to start the wood.

If it was a gas fireplace insert "yes" you can use it outside. It won't work great but you could probably get it to work. It's fire box and flue is not shaped for a wood fire and it's metal is likely rather thin so it probably won't last long. You could brick up around the outside if you'd like it as a project to learn masonry but I would not spend the money to hire a mason for the job.
