I am finishing a new deck (PT pine and "Wolmanized" decking) that has been sanded and already has a few coats of Thompson's preservative as it was being built. Would like now to add some color variations to decking and railings. Would like to custom mix colors using miniwax oil stains(interior) which would allow me to experiment with scraps to get the color I want. No one seems to know why it is not used other than UV deteriation.
Would it be possible to use interior stain under several coats of UV protection on top . . or better yet . . Is it possible to mix these stains with penetrating topcoats such as Thompson's Protec.
Thanks

Dennis: you have a good plan in your mind, but bad plan in reality. It is your deck, do as you want. But if you do what you want to do, and use any type of sealer, in about one year, you will have a great big piece of mess.
