I have to clean and then seal my deck this summer.

I have heard (could be wrong, hence the question) that many deck cleaners are nothing but bleach and soap.....

Anyone out there recommend a good, safe cleaning solution you used on yours and what were the results? I was thinking of using some bleach and soap (wearing old clothes and eye protection of course) as a mix and trying that.

I would be happy to hear from anyone and what they used......also in what quantities.

Thanks again!

(You can usually find me posting in the automotive forum under this name BTW)

I used regular household cleanser (Mr. Clean) and hot sudsy water. I scubbed it with a floor brush and rinsed well. However, I did this because I used a semi-transparent stain (grey) and I wasn't ready to re-stain, this cleaned the winter dirty off and it looked great for the summer.

This year I need to re-stain and I plan on power washing the whole thing first.

Good idea. I think I will borrow my neighbor's heavy duty power washer and try that. I'll bet some soap and water with pressure will clean it quite well. .
