MY WIFE AND I ARE PURCHASING A 28X76 DOUBLE WIDE MOBILE HOME AND I WANT TO BUILD A LARGE DECK ON THE BACK OF THE HOME. I KNOW HOW TO BUILD THE DECK ITSELF, HOWEVER, I NEED TO KNOW HOW I CAN TIE IT IN TO THE MOBILE HOME.(I.E. THERE ARE NO HEADERS AND ETC. TO ANCHOR TO).

I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO ACCOMPLISH THIS.... OR...DOES IT HAVE TO SIMPLY BE MORE OF A FREESTANDING DESIGN, ONLY IT WILL BE ANCHORED AS FAR AS THE 6X6 LEGS ARE CONCERNED. IF THIS IS THE WAY THAT I HAVE TO DO IT, WILL IT BE STABLE, WITH IT NOT ACTUALLY BEING CONNECTED TO THE HOME'S STRUCTURE.

PLEASE SUPPLY ANY SUGGESTIONS THAT MAY BE OUT THERE.

THANKS,
KEVIN M. COPE

Best check with your local bldg. dept. Here in CA, mobiles and modular homes are controlled by the State, NOT by the local bldg. dept. Basically, any decks, stairways, patio covers, carports, etc. have to be free-standing -- they can't be attached to the home. Given that, you simply have to plan properly to make them strong enough meet the loads (snow, wind, seismic, etc.)that they need to meet. We do them all of the time. Not that big of a deal, as long as you plan accordingly.
