Reataining wall for split level patio

Hi,

I want to put in a split level patio at the side of my garden,
2 sides of the area are walls of the house, another side is the fence to the neighbours and the last side is the step down which leads into the garden.

What blocks should I use to create the small retaining wall to act as the step? roughly 6 inches high to retain an mot type 1 subase.

can I compact mot type 1 against the fence's gravel board or do I need to also build another retaining wall separating the type 1 from the gravel board?

Any advice on the above would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Use the largest blocks you can handle, dimensional blocks are excellent for small retaining walls and yes, you should put down 6-8" of compacted base which is an excellent foundation for small walls!
