How to evenly space pergola boards

I built a 10x10 pergola in the back yard. I would like to add 12 2x2's to the top for a little more shade. How can I calculate equal spacing of 12 2x2 boards over 10 ft length? I could just guesstimate but would like to know if there is a simple calculation I can use.

12 2x2s are 18" wide. 10 feet is 120". That means you will have 102" of free space in the 11 spaces between. 102 11 is the width of each space. A little over 9 1/4".

Depends how you start/end.
So if you have a header at each end and want to start with a space and end with a space there are 13 spaces
Also is the actual space you want to cover 10 feet or is the outside dimension 10 feet?
