Pergola Ledger - Size or material requirements?

Hard to find much at all about required size/material of ledger boards for attached pergolas. I知 guessing then that same material and lumber as what is used on the front beams would be appropriate then?

For instance, if 2x12x16 beams are used for front posts, then a single 2x12x16 should be used for the ledger?

Please correct me if I知 wrong.

When you say pergola, that to me is an open air shade canopy, with no roof, no snow load, just joists sitting over your beam, usually with 2x2s running perpendicular to the joists.

If that is the case, then your ledger would only need to be the same size as the joists, and you would use joist hangers to attach your joists to the ledger.

Yep, that痴 exactly what I meant.

Thank you!
