Keep a deck looking new

We just purchased a new home (1-month-old) that has a redwood deck. We would like to keep it looking new. How long should we wait before putting a water sealer on? What is the best brand of water sealer (I have heard there are better brands than Thompsons)? What is the best way of taking care of a redwood deck?

Go to a local paint store and ask for Superdeck. (The one with the duck on the label.) Take a rough sketch of the deck, with dimensions, with you so they can tell you how much you need. Plan on sealing the deck in the next few weeks, before the sun starts to darken the redwood. The crew at the paint store can also tell you how often you need to seal the deck to keep it looking new.
