Composite decking core

As I understand, composite decking like TimberTech Pro, are capped with a waterproof exterior around a composite core. If I understand right, this is necessary to protect the core from getting moist and deteriorating? So what about your cut ends? Does the core deteriorate if moisture finds a way in?

No it does not deteriorate. It just does not look as good or have the appearance of the top layer. That is why you often see the cut ends either covered by a fascia cladding, or by a solid edge perimeter border (picture frame) that covers the cut ends.
