Question

We are Building a deck 16ft by 25 ft. We were going with a herribone pattern for the top surface. Why do the 45 degree angles do not match up all the way down the deck surface. we are putting the pattern every 2 joist . The lenght of the boards seem to be around 44-45 inches . We are cross cutting the pattern. They do match occassionally . Seeking help.

Herringbone patterns require all custom fitting to compensate for crowns and bends in the boards, as well as width variances. This is not as much of a problem if you use one of the composites, like Trex. It also requires accurate cuts, which means using a miter or radial arm saw rather than a Skil saw.
