I've sealed my asphalt driveway a few times myself using big box materials. I've never attempted to fill cracks tho. And a few searches here seem to show that it may not be as easy? Like the material doesn't last long and the cracks reopen?
Is filling cracks like the attached something a diy'er can realistically do?
Very easy, it's been a few houses since I had asphalt drive but used to fill cracks all the time before sealing the driveway. Bottle of crack filler squeezed into the crack with a squeegee to force it down and smooth it out ( I used a plastic bondo spreader) then seal the entire driveway!

I spent 4 hours yesterday power washing and filling cracks before the first coat. I checked the weather all day 0% chance of rain all day so thought i was in the clear. Got the first coat down (seen on the right) waited a few hours put in another coat after. The weather still said no rain so i went inside made dinner just to look outside and notice it starting to rain and then continue to rain for another 4 HOURS. Idk how they miss 4 hours worth of rain in the report that’s beyond me. But today it looks like a salt flat (see left) and it won’t come off with the leaf blower. Has anyone encountered this should i just do another coat next week ? Or is there a way to salvage it. Read More
